Introduction from Publishing Director Rebecca Marsh

I am extremely pleased to welcome you to the 2012 Emerald portfolio. In 2002, Emerald published 110 journals. Our portfolio will have grown to over 290 journals in 2012. In addition, we have acquired more than 500 books in the last ten years and we have a very healthy front list of over 150 new book titles each year, commissioned from the leading thinkers in the field.

In more recent years we have diversified into new and adjacent subject areas. We are extending our “community” ethos that we have developed in business and management and are now successfully building links with other fields of study and publishing some of the best research in these fields. Our greatest area of development is in Social Sciences, with Emerald books now covering key areas in sociology, public policy and education. We also have strength in the areas of Transport and Language and Linguistics.

This increased breadth has enabled us to open up more inter-disciplinary research, with our readers benefiting by learning from related and sometimes apparently unrelated areas of research. Our portfolio of Engineering journals has grown and we have focused expertise in mechanical and materials engineering and electrical and electronic engineering.
